Assi (80) Tussi AB

The Shahenshah of Bollywood, the Sadi ka Mahanayak, the Nation’s Pride Big B or simply AB turns 80 this year!

To honour AB’s 53 years in cinema & him turning 80 this year अबNoरMal is putting out this glorious retrospective of the Shahenshah of Indian Cinema & calling this “Assi (80) Tussi AB : an AB retrospective”
To begin with we are celebrating AB in the 70s & 80s by visually showcasing his iconic dialogues from films in that decade on Coasters.
Look out for more innovative representations & newer formats of the next : decades of AB in the months to come.

Presenting “AB in the 70s” a set of 6 coaster designs celebrating some of the most iconic dialogues from his blockbusters in the decade.
A non-descript debut in 1969 with K.A.Abbas’s Saat Hindustani followed by bit roles in ‘70-‘72 including the hugely popular Babu Moshaye in Anand in ‘71 as the industry was struggling with his lanky frame, unconventional looks & gruff baritone. Then Zanjeer happened in ‘73 & what followed thereafter was a new genre of the “angry young man”
With Zanjeer, Salim-Javed started a new wave in Bollywood. At a time when India was suffering from corruption and low economic growth, and the common man was left with frustration and anger over the system, Zanjeer began shifting Hindi cinema in a violent and aggressive direction. Reflecting the anger of the masses, Bachchan was seen as the new hero, who had the courage to fight against the wrongs while maintaining moral values at the same time. This film also ended the struggling period for Bachchan, and turned him into a rising star.

The 70’s saw Amitabh Bachchan’s angry young man avatar bloom thanks to some solid author backed roles from Salim-Javed like Zanjeer, Majboor, Deewar, Sholay, Trishul, Don & Kaala Patthar. Yash Chopra’s Kabhi Kabhi softened the angry young man by transitioning him into a brooding poet simmering with unrequited love. Then Manmohan Desai’s action comedy Amar Akbar Anthony charted hitherto unknown areas of AB’s repertoire.

Zanjeer, Deewar, Sholay & Amar Akbar Anthony have been picked for this set of 6 coasters.
