Chal Dhanno ... aaj teri Basanti ki izzat ka sawaal hai

An Iconic film.
One of the many iconic dialogues in that film.
One of the many iconic characters in that ensemble cast.

Sholay released on Aug 15, 1975 in Bombay. Due to lacklustre reviews and a lack of effective visual marketing tools, it saw poor financial returns in its first two weeks. From the third week, however, viewership picked up owing to positive word of mouth. During the initial slow period, the director and writer considered re-shooting some scenes so that Amitabh Bachchan's character would not die. When business picked up, they abandoned this idea. After being helped additionally by a soundtrack release containing dialogue snippets.
It became the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1975, and was declared an""All Time Blockbuster”.
Sholay went on to earn a still-standing record of 60 golden jubilees across India and was the first film in India to celebrate a silver jubilee at over 100 theatres. It was shown continuously at Bombay's Minerva theatre for over five years.

If I were to recount Sholay related trivia I could write a book. Suffice to say that no movie ever has or ever will influence me like Sholay! It’s THE ULTIMATE BOLLYWOOD FILM.

Amitabh was recommended as Jay by Dharmendra. Initially, Dharmendra was keen to play the role of Thakur Baldev Singh. He eventually relented when the director Ramesh Sippy warned him that if Sanjeev Kumar played Veeru he would get Basanti the heroine. In real life, Sanjeev Kumar had just then proposed marriage to Hema Malini while Dharmendra was in love with Hema Malini hence quickly agreed to do the role of Veeru & the rest as they say is History!
Basanti’s horse chase sequence was shot over 12 days seriously injuring her body double in the process.Hema Malini played her career best & toughest role in Sholay as Basanti. It challenged conventional norms of the 70’s by the protagonist playing a tangewali when riding cars or scooters in small towns was possibly rare. Like Basanti says in the film “धन्नो घोड़ी होकर टांगा चला सकती है तो बसंती टांगा क्यूँ नहीं चला सकती ?”

अबNoरMal pays tribute to Basanti the Tangewali & Dhanno the Mare in its own unique फilmy नautanki way for posterity as a collector’s item!

Presenting “Chal Dhanno…” a fully handpainted Choli that celebrates Basanti’s famous horse chase scene & iconic dialogue.
