Goddess Saraswati is worshipped on Vasant Panchami also known as Shri Panchami or Saraswati Panchami to get enlightened with knowledge and to get rid of lethargy, sluggishness and ignorance. This ritual of initiating education to children is known as Akshar-Abhyasam or Vidya-Arambham/Praasana which is one of the famous rituals of Vasant Panchami.

Presenting the “Varnamala - Swara - Vyanjana” choli in Leaf Green pure raw silk that has the Hindi alphabets or Varnamala.

The Hindi Varnamala (वर्णमाला) has 12 Swaras (स्वर) & 36 Vyanjanas (व्यंजन) that has been embroidered in gold in painstaking detail on a banyan leaf. Reminiscent of the time young children are made to write alphabets for the first time on a leaf or on sand or a plate of rice at the altar of Goddess Saraswati. During the ceremony, children first write the mantra ‘Om Hari Sri Ganapataye Namah’ by tracing it on sand or in a tray filled with rice grains. This ritual is conducted under the supervision of a guru or a priest. After this, the Guru writes the same mantra on the tongue of the child with gold. These practices during Vidyarambham hold a special significance. Writing on sand signifies practice; writing on rice grains symbolizes acquisition of knowledge that leads to prosperity. Lastly writing with gold on the child’s tongue invokes the grace of Goddess Saraswati, which is essential for acquiring true knowledge. It is a popular belief that if a young child writes in front of the Goddess, they would be blessed by the deity and will do very well in their education in the future.

Material: Pure Raw silk in Leaf Green the color you would associate with a banyan leaf & with Embroidery in gold to associate with the first inscription of knowledge on the tongue.
